Over 2019-2020, I undertook a research residency with Speak Percussion under the mentorship of composer Warren Burt, and supported by the Australia Council for the Arts via their Career Development Grants Program. This project recorded and analysed the sounds of 21 cymbals and large gongs, representing collected data in detailed spreadsheets, sheet music representations, and audio formats (using both additive and granular synthesis). The archived analyses are freely available via the link above, and also contains two max patches developed to translate data between SPEAR and Microsoft Excel. Also above is a 15 minute video explaining the methodology that was developed to record data.
